Westport 2005 Bob flew the replica Garber Target kite for awhile and eventually asked me if I wanted a turn. Not really! In June I had crashed the 5 foot Mark I on Fanø and broke the spine. This is basically a STUNT kite, right? After a bow line adjustment the kite was re-launched with me at the control bar. Scary!!! OK, I can do this. I steered it to the left. I should be able to do this, right? It was losing altitude fast. I got it back up into the air. Suddenly, it turned over and headed for the ground. I had over adjusted and the control is delicate. I recovered just above ground level; it started to go up, gained enough altitude not to crash when it did two full loops. OK, that was enough for me!!!! Way too scary!! One of our friends said it LOOKED like I knew exactly what I was doing! Yea, right. Remember, I don't fly stunt kites! I have to say though, no one else flying it has had the nerve to do a loop! Sam's grandson, Geoff, took the control bar from me, thank goodness. Better I take the pictures and let someone else fly! |
